Our Story

From the heart of Detroit, a city known for its industrious spirit, two visionary entrepreneurs are making waves in the health and wellness sector. Meet Madala Mathurin, a software engineer, and Amanda Zora, a talented product designer. Together, they are the driving force behind Kozen, a wellness app that is transforming the way Michiganders experience self-care, mindfulness, and mental health support.

Madala Mathurin and Amanda Zora, who initially crossed paths while working at Apple, have come a long way from their college days in Detroit. Madala, who studied at Wayne State University, and Amanda, alumnus at the College of Creative Studies, have combined their diverse skill sets to create Kozen, a wellness app that is revolutionizing the local health and wellness scene.

Kozen is not just an app; it's a movement that's rooted in giving back to the state that nurtured these two founders. At its core, Kozen is a one-stop-shop for finding local wellness sessions, offering an array of features, including yoga sessions, meditation sessions, sound baths, assisted stretching and more. What sets Kozen apart is its unique approach to empowering wellness professionals. It provides them with the freedom to create sessions on their own terms and make a living doing what they love. At the same time, it offers individuals in Michigan the opportunity to discover and attend wellness sessions that resonate with them.

Madala Mathurin and Amanda Zora's commitment to Michigan is evident in their journey. Madala went on to become the second iOS developer for Rocket Homes, contributing to the thriving tech scene in Detroit. Meanwhile, Amanda's design prowess led her to work with renowned brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Honda. She also joined a Design Studio supporting startups in the region. The duo's experiences shaped their vision for Kozen, where technology meets mental health care.

In the summer of 2023, Kozen embarked on an electrifying journey. The company pitched at UCLA Anderson Business School and USC Marshall Business School, impressing judges and earning accolades for their innovative approach. They also achieved recognition as a semi-finalist in Pepperdine University's Most Fundable Companies Competition. Notably, Kozen secured a spot in the Builders and Backers Program's summer 2023 cohort, a testament to their potential to make a lasting impact in the wellness industry.

However, the pinnacle of their achievements was the launch of the Kozen iOS App in late July. This user-friendly platform has received great reviews for its intuitive design, accessibility, and the transformative wellness sessions it offers.

Kozen's mission extends beyond just creating a successful business; it's about fostering well-being and mental health within the local community. Their app serves as a bridge between technology and mental health care, addressing the critical issue of inadequate wellness tools.

Madala and Amanda's commitment to giving back doesn't stop at the app's functionality. They are dedicated to supporting local wellness professionals, helping them reach a wider audience and increase their income. In doing so, they contribute to the economic growth of the region and uplift the lives of those who call Michigan home.

As Kozen continues to flourish, Madala Mathurin and Amanda Zora are writing a success story that is uniquely Michigander. Their innovation, dedication, and profound belief in the healing power of wellness have the potential to transform not only the health and wellness sector but also the lives of countless individuals in the state they call home.

In a world where mental health is paramount, Kozen stands as a beacon of hope, a reminder that technology can be harnessed for the greater good. Madala and Amanda’s uplifting journey from college friends to transformative entrepreneurs is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and a profound connection to one's roots. With Kozen, they are giving back to Michigan in the most meaningful way possible – by helping its residents find balance, healing, and joy in their everyday lives.
